Lake Hubbard is located in northern Alcona County in Michigan. It covers 8,800 acres. Lake Hubbard was named after Dr. Bela Hubbard and Dr. Douglass Houghton who surveyed the lake in 1850. It is the second largest inland lake in Michigan. Lake Hubbard is reputed for many things. It was a strategic military point for Indians, because of its high ground. It then became an important lumbering area. Since then, the lake has become one of the most popular tourist attractions, retirement home, real estate opportunity, and prime resort area in Michigan.
Lake Hubbard is full of beautiful views. If you like to golf, an awesome golf club is located on the southeast of the lake. If you like to spend the night, there are many great cottages, motels, cabins, and hotels in the surrounding area. Many nice restaurants are just around the corner. Just north of the Lake is the small town of Hubbard to cater tourists. On the south of Hubbard Lake has Mt. Maria. National geographic call it, “one of the ten most beautiful lake views in the country.” Austin Backus Memorial is on top of Mt.Maria. It is quite impressive museum of local history. Hubbard Lake is on excellent roads in the country. It will make awesome auto tour. When you take trip up north, be sure to stop there.
